| Why use Winzip?
For our Windows customers it is necessary from time to time to send you program changes. The most efficient way to do this is through email as an attachment. Unfortunately many email programs and email routers change the file format so that when you receive it, it doesn't work. To fix that problem, the best solution we know of is to "zip up" the file using a product called Winzip. This not only preserves the integrity of the program that is being sent, but is also compresses the file size so that it takes less time to download. Winzip is available from www.Winzip.com. There have a free evaluation copy available for downloading. In the past this was all you needed. If you do decide to buy it, and we hope you do, it only costs $29.00. If you do any downloading off the Internet, eventually you will run into Zip files that will need Winzip in order to open. So it's a good investment. How to find Freight-Link Once you have Winzip installed, (consult Winzip.com for installation instructions) you will need to know a couple things. The first is where on your network Freight-Link is installed. If you don't know, it's easy to find. Minimize all your windows until you are at the Windows desktop and see the Freight-link Icon. Right click on the Freight-Link icon and then select the Properties option. You will then have to select the Shortcut tab at the top of the window and then you should see a windows like what is below. Then look at the Start In line. In this case it says "X:\CSC." That means Freight-Link is loaded on the "X" drive. Your drive will probably be different.
How to use Winzip? When we send you a program it will come over as an attachment with a .ZIP extension and in the body of the email we will tell you where to unzip or extract the programs to. When you see the .ZIP, you will know it's a Winzip file. You will have to open or launch the attachment and if Winzip is properly install, Windows should be smart enough to automatically open it for you. You will see a screen that looks like this. Of course the programs that are involved will change depending on what is sent to you.
To unzip the programs, click on the "Extract" button. You will then see a window like the one below. In the "Extract to" field you want to put your drive letter followed by the directory you were told to unzip the programs to in the email. In this case "X:\CSC\FB." If it is easier for you, use the Folder/drives window to find the drive letter and the right folder. Just make sure that the correct location is in the Extract to line. When you are ready hit the Extract button and the programs will be copied to the appropriate location.
You may be prompted to over overwrite other programs. That is a good sign because it means that you extracting to the right folder. Next you should be able to close Winzip. In some cases, you may have to get out of Freight-Link and then go back in to pick up the changes. At the very least you should get out of the module you are working in and then go back in to pickup the change. We hope you find this helpful. Let us know if you have any questions or comments.
